The below is the first in a series of articles for incoming students to the fall 2017 semester at our U.S. partner institutions. This series is intended to help answer any questions students or recruitment partners may have about what international students need to do to prepare for a smooth transition into their studies in America.
By studying at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln (UNL), students will be enrolled at one of the United States’ top public and leading research universities.
Course enrolment at UNL
Fully admitted freshmen and transfer students must complete the following steps in order to secure course enrolment at UNL:
- Pay the $250 enrolment deposit through the MyRED account
- Complete the New Student Enrolment Mail-In (online) Reservation
- Complete the New Student Enrolment Advising Inventory in MyRED
- Complete the Math Placement Exam
Once the steps above are completed, a date will automatically be assigned for an academic advisor to review the student’s file and select courses for them. Students do not enrol themselves in classes and they do not need to be present on campus on the date that is assigned to their file. Once the student has been enrolled in classes, they will receive an e-mail from a New Student Enrolment staff member informing them that their schedule can be viewed in MyRED. For full details on how to complete each of these steps, click here, and then click the link that says “Course Enrolment” under the “How Can We Help?” heading.
Housing at UNL
UNL offers 17 different on-campus accommodation options and the University guarantees on-campus accommodation to all international students. International students should choose the “Break Housing” option so that they can stay on campus during holidays in the United States. International Orientation
International Orientation is a required event for all new undergraduate international students. Orientation for the fall 2017 semester runs from 16 August until 18 August. Attendance is required on all three days. Students must arrive in Lincoln by Tuesday 15 August at the latest in order to attend the first day of orientation on 16 August. It is recommended that the students arrive for orientation on 13, 14 or 15 August, when members of the International Welcome Team will be at Lincoln Airport to greet and assist students and provide a free shuttle to campus and to nearby off-campus destinations. Students must submit their arrival information here. For more information on arrival, UNL International Orientation, and what students can expect to do during this time, please click here.
EduCo team
Our team at UNL, Brent and Rachel, are enthusiastically awaiting the new students’ arrival to Lincoln in August. In the meantime, if students or their agents have any questions whatsoever regarding enrolment, housing, orientation, or the pre-arrival process in general, please contact Rachel at [email protected] at any time. Rachel and Brent look forward to working with the students and meeting them upon their arrival in the fall.
