International students can take advantage of the support services being rendered by Duquesne University’s Centre for Career Development, among which are regular activities to help students prepare for their future careers. Among the Centre’s monthly activities are: (1) workshops on resume writing and mock interviews; (2) Career Café forums on various topics that affect students on and off-campus; (3) internship sessions organised by the Business and Liberal Arts Colleges for students to learn from fellow students and prospective employers; and (4) job and internship fairs off-campus. The Centre also holds semi-annual events like the Internship and Career Expo in February and September of each year.
Getting involved in the Career Centre’s programs is easy and the benefits are enormous. Students simply need to register with Handshake, an online system that assists them with their job and internship search. They then get access to hundreds of job and internship postings, apply for positions that best fit their qualifications, make an appointment with a career consultant and create saved searches to have new listings automatically emailed to them. They can also join the On Campus Interview (OCI) Program for a chance to be interviewed for positions after graduation or for a summer internship. Interview schedules and positions will be posted in Handshake for the spring (February to April) and fall (October to December) seasons.
“Professional skills take practice,” says EduCo US Marketing Director Julia Tracewski, “and our international students need to take responsibility for planning their own professional development and career path. Duquesne’s Centre for Career Development is a great help in developing their skills in resume writing, preparing for interviews and communicating effectively.”
Duquesne University is one of the highly-ranked partner institutions of EduCo in the United States, and is located in the heart of Pittsburgh which has been cited by CNBC as the #1 city for young people as well as #1 among America’s 40 strongest job markets.
