International students who are accepted into an undergraduate course at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln this Fall 2019 will be entitled to a $6,000 housing credit for on campus accommodations at the Suite-Style and Traditional Residence Halls.
To be eligible, applicants must attend an EduCo event in their respective country and meet with a Nebraska Admissions Representative. Then they should submit an application for the Fall 2019 intake through their EduCo representative within 10 days of attending the event.
Once the approved students have paid the $250 enrollment deposit on or before 1 May, they can reserve their on-campus housing. A $3,000 housing credit will then be applied towards the university’s on-campus housing for Fall 2019 which counts as Year 1, renewable for another $3,000 housing credit for Year 2. For students to avail of the Year 2 housing credit, they should maintain full-time status with a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Benefits of on-campus housing
International Recruitment Specialist Brent Schmoker cites the benefits of on-campus housing as follows:
■ Welcoming atmosphere
Approachable intercultural guides are available to welcome incoming students to their new quarters for the duration of their study program.
■ Cheaper accommodation option
On-campus housing is more cost-effective than off-campus housing because this saves them from transportation costs.
■ Convenient location
Both the traditional and suite-style residence halls are within close proximity to classrooms. Students are thus freed from the stresses of having to walk so far or familiarising themselves with bus routes or looking for a parking space. They can study in the comfort of their room.
■ Numerous study nooks
Numerous study spots around the campus provide a conducive atmosphere for international students to focus on homework and get better grades.
■ Safe and secure environment
Students are issued an exclusive I.D. for room access and are provided with an on-campus police department as well as a 24-hour front desk reception.
■ 5 buffet-style dining centres
Unlimited meal plans are available for students in the university’s five buffet-style dining centres.
